Just got back from this pilgrimage tour arranged by Himalayan Adventure Sports. The long drive to Maratika Cave passed by surprisingly quickly, because if you have never been to Nepal before, it gives a wonderful introduction to the rural life, passing through many villages, marvelling at the paddy fields perched on every piece of available land, and seeing the porters carrying heavy loads up the steep tracks. When we reached the three different sites, Deepak was a very knowledgeable guide and took a personal interest in answering all our questions. Flying to Lumbini avoided another long drive, and we were able to concentrate on looking around Buddha's birthplace without feeling too tired. All the transfers from plane to car, to hotel, and back, were managed very slickly by Deepak and his team. The opportunity for participating in meditation at Kapan monastery on the last day was highly appreciated. If you are interested in historical Buddhist sites, don't miss this pilgrimage tour.
